To Guard You In All Your Ways
By Melanie E. from issue 16

Often, during home-school convention season (summertime), our family experiences much attack
from the devil. This morning, the second day in June, was no exception. Daddy and I were
taking mom to the airport where she would fly to Houston for a home-schooling convention that
she is speaking at. Next week is the Denver convention and the week after that I am traveling to
Mexico for a mission trip. Each of these things will advance the Kingdom of God, and our enemy,
Satan, did not want this to happen, so he attacked in the form of a deer.
We were flying down the two-lane highway when suddenly we observed a deer making her way
across the road just ahead. There were cars behind us and in the other lane approaching us.
The doe halted a moment as she saw our station wagon moving rapidly towards her, then glimpsing
a vehicle coming in her lane, she leaped in our direction. We wonder whether God sent an angel at
that moment and pushed the deer backwards—she was aiming at the rear of our car— because she
pranced and then leapt sideways. Time seemed to stand still as we saw the doe coming closer but
when we hit her with a jolt, we were alerted to reality. Glass shattered and we just cried out,
“LORD, help us!” Daddy pulled the car over to the side of the road and it was then that we started
seeing how the hand of the LORD had protected us.
Beginning to count our blessings, we noticed that not one of us was even scratched or bruised.
The deer had been originally heading for the front of our car, where it could have really hurt us by
breaking the glass of the driver’s seat or back seat windows. As it was, though, just the far backside
window was shattered. Mom was sitting in the back seat and had a solar reflector separating her from
the left side windows because the sun was too bright. Her face could have been really beat up from
the broken glass flying her way if she had not had that there.
Also, the deer’s legs could have been stuck in the car and been very dangerous to mom if they were
kicking. We were very grateful that the engine still worked and the car runs. We feel like Psalm 91
applies directly to us today. God did command His angels concerning us to guard us in all our ways!
The interesting thing is that a friend of ours whom we visited after the accident told us that she felt
impressed to pray for our safety this morning! We never know what a day will bring. Rather, through
lots of prayer, we need to just depend on Him Who does know. We were able to tell some people
about the power of the LORD as a result of this morning’s incident. Everything truly does “work together
for good for those who love the LORD and are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).~
